The Rappahannock Hunt has announced its 1964 Point-toPoint Race date: March 7, 12:30 p.m. at Thornton Hill Farm, 2 miles south of Sperry, ville on Route 522. The second event on the Virginia timber-race circuit, the Rappahannock Point-to-Point is designed to offer horse owners the perfect early-season course for conditioning. The circular course covers approximately 3 miles of rolling hillside over low timber fences. This layout is also of advantage to the spectators, giving them a continuous view of a very exciting hill-anddale course. As the race season progresses courses become flatter and provide higher jumps. The Rappahannock Race Card probably offers more races and a greater variety of races than any other of this season’s meets. The first race, 12:30 p.m., is the colorful Rair Race, to be ridden in hunting attire by foxhunters who have hunted their mounts regularly during the season. The second race is for Quarter Horses. This provides exciting, quick action on the flat. The third race is the W. A. Laing Memorial, for Juniors over 1/2 mile on the flat. The fourth race, the Mt. Salem for ladies is always a thrilling event over 3 miles of timber course.
