Ruffed Grouse Society
Indicative of the esteem the grouse holds in the hearts of Highland County sportsmen is the Ruffed Grouse Society of America founded there in Oct. of 1961. Membership now extends to 21 states and 1 foreign country.
Big Game Inventory
It takes time to compile the national big game harvest and the Fish and Wildlife Service has Just released the 1962 figures. Deer, bear, antelope, sheep and goats 6howed an increase but moose and elk took a'dip. With almost a million white tail deer being harvested, Texas led with 195,000. Florida was the top wild turkey state with a harvest of 20,000 followed by Pennsylvania with 15,775 birds.
