Closing Hunting Seasons Much of the Old Dominion will become closed to hunting next week as the small game season ends January 31 west of the Blue Ridge. Fox and ’coon hunters can still sally forth in a few western counties, but otherwise the hunting grounds will be quiet. In the East however, small devotees can enjoy another 2 weeks of hunting as their season continues through February 15. Trapping Season Still Open1 One good way to take up the slack following the closing of hunting seasons is to stake out a short trapline for some mid-winter toe pinching.With a few exceptions, the season is open through March 10. Check your Game Laws Summary for special seasons on foxes and raccoons. Based on reports from fur buyers, Virginia's 1962-63 trappers successfully lured to their sets 99,019 muskrats 14,237 raccoons, 6,628opos sums, 3,922 skunks, 2,119 minks, 986 bearers, and 105 weasels. For some reason my red fox wasn't included!
