Some folks in Rappahannock lave been saying they would like to get together with others who are interested in rural ^ts and Crafts. It seems that certain useful crafts, once practiced by many in Rappanannock, might be lost and forgotten unless some deliberate effort is made to preserve them. Another reason :here is interest in reviving crafts and in learning new cnes is that such a hobby would fill a social and recrea:ional need for some, be a means of creative self expression for some and could possibly become a source for supplementary income for athers. There are living in Rappahannock at present several individuals who are either expert or “fair to middling good* at one or more of the arts or crafts and would enjoy knowing someone else with whom to share their enthusiasm. One aim is to compile a list of such persons so that they might communicate with each other if they wish. -Many delightful possibilities for an arts and crafts group have been mentioned, but the direction such a project would take would depend on the amount of interest. Miss Harriet Goode, Home Agent, has assisted greatly in “getting the ball rolling* by planning and setting up the first definite activity. This will be a rug making demonstration by Miss Catherine Peery of V.P.I., a rural crafts specialist. These meetings will be held March 4 and 5 at Amissville Fire Hall from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. On the 4th Miss Peery will work with hooked rugs and on the 5th she will help with braided rugs. Anyone in the county who is interested, may come to Amissville to these demonstrations.

It is hoped that demonstrations or work shops of other crafts can be set up from time to time in accordance with the number of folks interested in the same craft.
