VEC Begins Study
In Six Counties
The Virginia Employment Commission today-.began a study seeking to determine the feasibility of establishing a new public employment office to serve employers, work ers and communities in six counties of the North-Central Piedmont. The initial phase of the study will be a survey of employers of 10 or more workers in Culpeper, Greene, Madison, Orange, and most districts of Fauquier and Rappahannock counties, These employers have been requested to respond to a questionnaire by Sept. 10 on various aspects of their current and projected employment plans.
If establishment of the office is found feasible, and is subsequently approved, the Commission has proposed to locate the facility centrally in Culpeper. It would have responst bility for serving residents of the six counties, all now receiving some measure of service from VEC offices in Chas lottesville and Front Royal.
VEC Field Supervisor George D. Delo said the Commission study would affirm or rule out a long-held opinion that an office is needed within the area. “Recent and anticipated economic expansion in this area indicates to us that a centrally located public non-fee charging employment service facility would provide much needed and beneficial services for employers, job-seekers, and for economic development interests," he said. Delo joined with a number of area business organizations and businessmen in urging that employers responded by September 10 to the VEC ques tionnaire received in the mail today.
