Estimates on August 1 showed the number of layers in the nation to be 288 million, up slightly from July 1, 1964, and 1 per cent above the same time last year. The rate of lay was slightly higher. However, pullets not of laying age are about 3 per cent less than last year. Farm prices last week in Virginia were; grade A large mostly 44-45 cents and mediums 34 1/2-35 1/2. Large white eggs in New York were mostly 47 cents and mediums 36 1/2-37 1/2 cents.
