Charles H. Thornhill
Charles H. Thornhill died at nis home in Boston on October 23, 1964 at the age of 69, after being in failing health for some time. He was a na:ive of Rappahannock, engaged in farming and was the son af the late Turner Ashby Thornhill and Ada Coates Thornhill. Be was a member of the Slate Mills Baptist Church. The iarm house in which he died aas been in his family for four generations. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Lucy Bailey Thornhill; Dne daughter, Mrs. William. Vforian of Washington, D. C, :hree sons, Charles Ashby and rhomas Lindsay Thornhill, soth of Boston and Joseph Winfield Thornhill of Culpeper; one sister, Mrs. James [Kate) Glover of Washington, 3. C. and six grandchildren. A graveside funeral service was held Sunday, October 25, in Fairview Cemetery conducted by the Rev. George Williamson and the Rev. Virgil Wilson. Pallbearers were Brew Burke, Lowell Archer, H. H. Charles O. Coates
Charles Oscar Coates, 69, of Sperryville died Oct 20, 1964 at Culpeper Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Rappahannock County, the son of the late Charles William and Nellie Compton Coates, both of Rappahannock. A graveside funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday Oct. 22 at Sperryville Cemetery with the Rev. Clyde F. Melton officiating. Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. John Baker, Parkersburg, W. Va., Mrs. Frank Binford, Albany, Ga., Mrs. James B. Wood, Philadelphia, Pa., and Mrs. Alfred Verner, Suffolk; two brothers, Roy Coates, Sperryville and James E. Coates, Roanoke. Pallbearers were Dr. John P. Snead, Fielding, M. Lewis, James W. Fletcher, Henry Jenkins, Ira Compton, Elmer Clark, Walter Siwault and G. M. Black. Clore Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
