Deaf School Dorm
Dedicated to Carter
A new young deaf girls’dormitory at the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind in Staunton was dedicated Sunday, November 8, in honor of State Sen. Curry Carter of Fishersville. Former VSDB superintendent Joseph E. Healy told the nearly 200 persons attending the dedication ceremonies that the building was being named in honor of Sen. Carter because “for 26 years he served these children—not because he was making any money out of it, but because of interest. He loved those children and you would be surprised how much they loved him". Sen. Carter served for 26 years as a member and president of the school’s Board of Visitors. He recently was elected to the honorary post of president emeritus of the Board.
