County Conservat
C. M. Ramey of Slate Mills has been named the outstanding conservationist in Rappahannock County by the Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District. Mr. Ramey was presented a certificate at a dinner meeting held in Madison Thursday night. Gen.I Daniel Noce of Castleton, former member of the district board made the presentation. Mr. Ramey has followed conservation practices since 1943 when the district made plans for his farm. Since that time he has added and developed different practices. Though his farm is not large, 180 acres, it is very well kept and well planned. Forty-eight acres of the farm are in conservation crop rotation; 44 acres in-contour strips; an acre and a half is in sod waterways; there are 13 acres of permanent hay;
Injured in Hunting Mishap
The hunting season opened an Monday and the first accident reported occurred at 4:30 that afternoon in Gid Brown Hollow when Edward H. Bailey, Jr. of Washington was accidently shot through the shoulder by a Russian gun fired by Albert Gatewood of Smedley Hollow. Bailey Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bailey, the husband of the former Joan Barbour and is the father of four children. He is a patient in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, where his condition was reported satisfactory.
