Sixty-three riders made up the Field. We followed the masters over roll ing Durant pastures, across the belly-deep Hazel river to the Longlea Stables where hounds were released. Mrs. Richard Kirkpatrick had generously opened her 2000-acre estate for this fox hunt, a fact much appreciated by the Durants and the Rappahannock Hunt. Soon hounds began to track, in spite of dryness and a sixinch ground cover of cornflakes, and took us at a good clip for a 36-minute run
