Christmas Day at 4:45 p.m. on Route 622, the Smedley Hollow Road, two vehicles sideswiped. John William Alther of Sperryville was operating a 53 Ford sedan and Abbie Gene Jenkins was operator of a 55 Ford sedan when they met on the narrow road. No one was injured. Damage was es timated at $150 and $100 to the Alther and Jenkins vehicles, respectively. Mr. Buntin also investigated this accident.

% more serious accident was reported by Trooper Paul P. Dicks on Dec. 28 at 10 p.m., 6.6 miles west of Sperryville on Route 211. Dennis James Gardner stationed aboard the USS Towhee at Norfolk was operating a 61 Volkswagen when he ran off the road on a curve. The car overturned in the road several times, coming to rest on the top. Gardner sustained a fractur ed jaw, fractured left fore arm and contusions of the hea.ci. Jerry Duane Dunklee of Montrose, Mich., a passenger in the car,receivedlacera tions over the left eye and on left arm. Both occupants of the vehicle were taken to Page Memorial Hospital by Bradley’s ambulance from Lu ray. Gardner was transferred to Bethesda Naval Hospital. Dunklee was not hospitalized.
