The firemen worked until dawn and Amissville returned to the scene again the middle of the morning and in the afternoon when the fire continued to smoulder. Freezing temperatures and the dense smoke hampered the efforts of the firemen. The two water tanks, after empty ing their load, got stuck in the ice and snow and Russell Bro. wrecker from Flint Hill had to be summoned. Pumpers refill ed a number of times from a stream at Mr6. C. H. Smith’s farm. Mr. DuChaine had just spent about nine thousand dollars remodeling the house and putting in electric heat.

On Sunday, Januray 17 the Rev. Charles F. Glaenzer of Bromfield Parish and the Re\t James Grimmer with charges In Huntly, Flint Hill, Washington and Sperry ville exchanged pulpits. Mr. Glaeiv zer conducted services at the Washington and Sperryville Methodist Churches and Mr. Grimmer preached the sermon at Trinity Episcopal Church.
