Spring Arrives
Spring arrived officially SUh day night, but even so there were signs apparent before then. Several flocks of wild geese had been sighted return-* ing north several weeks ago* Huge flocks of the birds flying in their v formation wing their way backfrom a southern winter. They announce theiif presence with a loud "honkingl as they pass overhead. ' There were many othersigns of spring around Rappahannock this week. The ladies have begun spring house cleaning and window washing was in style early this week as temperatures hovered in the eighties, and most clothes lines held an extra load of curtains, spreads and the like. Work on the Massies Corner intersection of Route 211, which had been held up by inclement weather, has resumed and the heavy equipment lumbers along at a steady pace. Highway crews are busy patching the asphalt surface of highways where the winter’s freezing and thawing crumbled the edges. At the State Highway Shop, snow blades which have completed their winter’s work (the department hopes) rest in the sheds and spreader bodies used for laying chemicals and sand lounge in their suspended berths behind the shop.
