Program
The word poverty can apply mentally, physically, spiritually and materially. The poverty-stricken people look upon it more materially, but In reality, it should be a program that goes deeper. Let's ask ourselves some questions: 1. What conditions gave rise to the Anti-Poverty Program? 2. Was it due to misfortunes of different kinds? 3. Was it because of mental retardations? 4. Was it due to their social standing that ability was not recognized? 5. Was it due to illiteracy - lack of education? 6. Have the underprivileged been neglected too long? The question now arises as to who is qualified to administer this program. Should it not be a professionally trained psychologist? No one should have this job unless he is sympathetic and understaindlng toward his fellow-man.’ He should be capable of building within the minds of the underprivileged a set of values that will enrich their lives accordingly. . In the selection for the excellent Anti-Poverty jobs, I do not think they should be vested in one or two families. If there is a good federal job vested in one member of a family should another member of the same family be handed a top Federal AntiPoverty job? If so, this could undermine the purpose of the whole program.
