Just learned how our 4-H boys who exhibited dairy heifers at the Culpeper Farm Show came out. As most of you know yours truly was tied up with the BCIA weighing and grading during the week of this event and consequently the tardiness in the following. Larry and Kenneth Cave and John Harris each exhibited a Holstein heifer (Junior calf) which they fed and. fitted at Mt. Vernon Stock farm where their dadswork. Manager, Edwin Scroggins, Jr. reported Larry* 8 calf placed 2nd, John’s 3rd and Kenneth's 4th. Since Culpeper is considered the Holstein Capital of Virginia, we salute these boys and Edwin Scroggins for their fine showing. For sure it is nice to see a farm manager take an interest in the boys who live on the farm he super vises!
C. G. and David Thornhill, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Thornhill, Boston, Va. exhibit ed four market hogs each at the Orange Area Junior Market Hog Show and Sale last week. All but one graded US#1 and weighed 190 to 215 pounds. These hogs were farrowed in April 1966 and were from the purebred Yorkshire sow chain sponsored by the Extension Service in Cooperation with Sears Roebuck Foundation of Alta nta, Georgia.
Richard Gore, Jr. 4-H son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gore of Estes attended the Electric Congress in Richmond as coun ty winner of this project sponsored by Virginia electric power producers.
