Dove hunters should !ind relatively good shooting on specially prepared fields on eight Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries Wildlife Management units in Piedmont Virginia this fall, accord ing to Game Division Chief R. H, Cross. “Drought conditions have forced unusually early harvest of many grain crops so food for the migratory doves is expected to be scarce," Cross said. The later September 17 opening this year should find Commission plantings of corn and millet a little more mature than usual and thus more attractive to the birds. Fields on Quantico, Hawfield, A. P. Hill, Cumberland Forest, Powhatan, Camp Pickett, Kerr Reservoir and Elm Hill wil; be open on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons during the first half of the split dove season, Septem ber 17 through November 5, 'There is no speORl Wpfdp shooting on these areas other than a valid hunting license. Corn, millet and other grains have been planted in rows separated by lanesof bare soil to facilitate dove use. The fields range in size from 30to 100 acres.
