Children Entitled
To VA Pension
- Minor children ofi deceased, veterans remain eligible for pension payments even though their mother loses her eligibility by remarriage. The same situation occurs when the mother becomes ineligible because her income exceeds the limit for pension eligibility. In these instances, payments are stopped to the widow but continued for the children. However if the widow fails to apply for pension, knowing that she is • not eligible, the VA will have'no record of the children who are entitled to receive pension payments; and until an application is received payments of pension cannot be made for the children. Unmarried children of deceased veterans are eligible for pension payments until they are 18 years of age, or until they are 23 if they are attending school, provided their own personal incomes do not make them ineligible. Whether the children were born of the parents, were adopted or were stepchildren of the veteran makes no difference as far as their eligibility is concerned.
