To Promote Ski Area
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rist, principal owners of the very successful Charnita Ski Area in nearby Pennsylvania, have been invited to consider the possibility of creating a yearround, full-facility recreational area at the Skyline Ski Area near Washington, Virginia.
Skyline Ski Area has been a limited operation for several years, attempting to develop a ski facility in the so-called 'Banana Belt" of skiing, the marginal area in the middle and lower Atlantic States which must depend upon artificial snow making. Skyline, from its start, has been hampered by poor weather, inadequate capitalization, and an inability todevelopa year-round recreational area. Experience has shown that recreational areas dependent upon private financing must rely upon real estate development as well as the recreational facilities to permit healthy, continuing development.
