In Bicycle Crash

A 13-year-old Sperryville youth escaped serious injury7 Tuesday afternoon when he was struck by an auto while riding his bike on Route 231 about two miles south of Sperryville.

Lewis James Atkins, Jr. was struck by a 1968 Oldsmobile operated by Stewart Robert Knowles of Strasburg when he darted in front of the vehicle, according to Trooper P. P. Dicks. He sustained contusions of the back, abrasions of the head a n d j back and a lacerated arm. He was taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital by Mr. Knowles where he was treated and released.

Two vehicles were involved in a minor collision Friday evening a mile west of Amissville on Route 211, and another two-car crash occurred Sunday near Sperryville.

Jesse J. Settle operating a 62 Ford pickup slowed to make a right turn into his driveway and was struck by a 64 Dodge operated by Lewis Mikel Walker of Falls Church. Both vehicles were traveling west on the highway.

All occupants escaped injury. Damage was estimated at $350 to the car and $150 to the truck, said Trooper Dicks who investigated. Walker was charged with following too closely.

Two Volkswagens were involved in a collision Sunday evening on Route 522 where it is intersected by Route 321 south of Sperryville.

Frederick Sfillman Stahl operating a 60-61 VM owned by Marsha B. Newell of Alexandria and Arthur M. Palmer operating a 65 VM owned by Henry R. Palmer, Jr. of Arlington collided at the intersection. Stahl pulled from Route 231 into the path of the Palmer car which was traveling east, according to Trooper J. B. Willis.

Arthur M. Palmer sustained lacerations of the head and contusions of the ribs. Rose Gayle Kelly received lacerations of the head and neck. They were taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital by the Rappahannock Rescue Squad.

Stahl was charged with reckless driving and no operator’s license.
