Capt. Keim has dubbed me Mr. Thithle, Okay!
It my needling people into spraying, grubbing, preventing Musk and Curled thistle from blooming and making seed is as prickly as the spines of these thistle we’ll have the movingest control program in the state. What could be better? Okay. I’m Mr. Thithle.
My good friend, Mrs. Mary Jamieson, was by to say they had grubbed all their thistle. Herbert Foster has gangs grubbing his acreages. Jim Bill Fletcher, Lester Dodson, Mrs. Frances Salter, New Jones are grubbing and we hope burning the blossoms.
Why in this day of modem agriculture write about grubbing thistle? Simply at this season there is no other way of getting rid of ‘em.
Last week I went to Ray Cannon’s to observe results of his freeze branding (an excellent job Ray) found Jim and Donna grubbing thistle. Saw they had mostly Bull thistle in back of their jeep so suggested Jim take a peep at Musk thistle blossom in burlap bag in back of my pickup.
Jim did. What’s this feather? The blossoms had matured and there was a sack full of downy seed ready to fly high wide and hideous over the county side.
I sat on that bag until getting to Dennis’ store; purchased half gallon of kerosene and had a bon fire in the heart of Scrabble.
Boy, if I could just get Mr. Kilpatrick to writing on thistle control. What wouldn’t it mean financially to the people of Virginia.
Mrs. Jesse L. Ward is grubbing and burning thistle bloom; any that show any pink coloring at all.

OMaybe he and Mr. Lane will seed lower Rappahannock. Time will tell. Down wind from here Cleve Ramey - a man with the hoe! Digging Musk and Curled thistle from “this land I love”. *********** Ray Cannon was by - he put five bull calves on feed on March 25th. First ninety days Av D.G.: 3.33 lbs., 3.33 lbs., 3.33 lbs.; 2.85 lbs. and 3.12 lbs.! One calf weighed 700 lbs. @227 days, another 677 @221 days of age, another 675 @261 days! Not bad. Not bad! Guess we should say, “Plenty good; number one Angus bulls biga da boss!!!
