The annual carnival sponsored by the AmissviUe Fire Company and Rescue Squad opened last night and will continue through Saturday night. A grand parade is the highlight of tonight’s (Thursday) activities and will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The parade will include fire and rescue equipment, majorettes, floats, marching units, comic entries and many more.
Friday night a festival queen will be selected from six young ladies competing for the title and a coronation ceremony will be held. Climaxing the four nights of the carnival Saturday will be the awarding of prizes which include a 1969 American Rambler. Second prize is a portable TV and a transistor radio is the third prize. There will be three additional prizes, each a $25 Savings Bond.

The American Red Cross has launched a nationwide emergency program for $6,000,000 needed to provide relief and recovery assistance for the thousands left homeless in the wake of Camille, the worst storm in our nation’s history.
