Charlottesville attorney William i C. Battle carried the state of Virginia and Rappahannock County by comfortable margins in Tuesday’s Democratic primary runoff election. In carrying the state, Battle amassed approximately 52 per cent of the popular vote against State Senator Henry Howell of Norfolk, who had waged a strong liberal challenge.

In Rappahannock County Battle received 240 votes, or 57 per cent of the total, to Howell’s 181 votes. Howell carried . Chester’s Gap by better than two to one and tied in he Flint Hill area.
