County Gets $40,339
School Aid Funds
A project to aid 180 educationally disadvantaged children in Rappahannock County has been approved for the 1969-70 school year by the Federal Programs Office of the State Department of Education.
Alfred L. Wingo, the Department’s special assistant for federal programs, said an allocation of $40,339 for the project has been made under an advanced funding provision in the 1968-69 appropriation bill for Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Congressional action is pending on the 1969-70 appropriation bill for the ESEA program.
The Rappahannock County project for children in grades one through three will offei instruction in reading and special activities for handicapped children and for junior primary children. Speech therapy also will be provided through the project.
Elementary PTA Plans Annual Used Book Sales
The Parent-Teacher Association of Rappahannock County Elementary School will be responsible for selling used textbooks at the beginning ol school this year, as it has done for several years. All Mathematics, Science and Health books will be changed this year, so these old textbooks will not be used or resold. Children are advised to bring books to school the first day.
