Wrecks Occur In
Construction Area
Two traffic crashes occurred Friday night in the construction area of Route 211 five and a half miles east of Washington. Francis A. Mann of Arlington operating a 1968 Chevrolet failed to read the detour signs and ran into the ditch. The crash resulted in $600 damages to his vehicle, according to Trooper W. A. Buntin who investigated.
Shortly after the first crash, a second car plunged into the ditch after failing to read the detour signs. This was Laura Jean Popp of St. Paul, Va. who sustained lacerations and contusions of the left eye. Glenzora Dingus, a passenger in the car, received lacerations of the nose. Damage to the vehicle, a 68 Chevrolet, was estimated at a thousand dollars.
On Saturday a mile east of Sperryville on Route 211 three vehicles were involved in a collision. John S. Dodson operating a 53 Ford pickup, made a left turn in front of a 69 Plymouth operated by Roland R. Abell of Arlington. The two vehicles collided and the Abell car skidded into a third car parked in front of Atkins Service Station. This was owned by Robert Roy Jenkins of Woodville and received damage amounting to $100. Damage to the pick up was estimated at $300- and to the Abell car at $1,500. Trooper Buntin also investigated these crashes.
