Nears For ASC
Chairman H. S. Barksdale of the Rappahannock County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee reminded fanners today they have only until August 22 to file petitions nominating candidates for ASC community committees. The elections will be held the third week in September.
“No special form is needed,” he states, “just a paper listing the name of your candidate for election to the committee for the community where he lives, and signed by six eligible voters of that community. The petitions must be turned in at the County ASC Office, Washington, Virginia by 5:00 p.m., August 22, 1969.
In general, eligible voters and eligible candidates are persons with agricultural interests as owners, tenants, or sharecroppers and who are eligible to participate in a farm program administered by ASCS, according to Chairman Barksdale.
He said an eligible voter may sign as many nominating petitions as he wishes.
Three committeemen and two alternates will be elected for one-year terms in each community. In each community election the person receiving the most votes will be committee chairman. Candidates who are second and third in numbers of votes will be declared vice-chairman and regular member respectively. These three persons will be delegates to the county convention held to fill vacancies on the County ASC Committee. In the community elections those who place fourth and fifth in the balloting will be first and second alternate committeemen and delegates.
