Back in W.W. I there was a cartoon of Mutt and Jeff in the trenches looking over toward the German lines. Suddenly there appears a placard out of the German trench with these words: GOTT MITT UNS. The cartoonist informs the readers that the words were German, God’s With Us. Jeff, not being familiar with the German words, thinks they are boasting. So, he makes a placard advising the enemy, WE’VE GOT MITTENS TOO.
In studying the activities of the primitive Hebrews we find that their concept of Yahweh altered with changing conditions, according to their success or failures. Yahweh smiled with favor on them when things went well, conversely He was angry when things went wrong.
Is God actually concerned in the affairs of man?
How far have we advanced from the primitive concept of God? Is He an anthropomorphic being with human attributes? Is He jealous, is He offended when you buy a new car when His :hurch is in need of repair? I’m sure I don’t know, I do know that [ feel better when I try to serve Him in my small way. In so doing [ enjoy the Reeling that GOD’S WITH ME.
