C&P Open House
At Sperryville
The C&P Telephone Company will hold an Open House at their Sperryville central office on this Friday, October 24 between the hours of 3 and 6 p.m., and on Saturday, October 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
F. Wayne Dementi, local manager, stated that C&P will “open the doors to all interested Sperryville and Rappahannock County residents so that each may see exactly what happens when he dials a telephone number”. Also, C&P is introducing, for the first time in Sperryville, a mobile exhibit trailer which was designed to acquaint the public with the history and development of the communications industry.
Included on display is the use of Indian “smoke signals” to the modem “data” service; also various models of telephones thfct have been in use from the time of their conception to the present date. There is a direct distance dialing display and a microwave demonstration to show how sound travels through space. Also displayed are different types of phone equipment for use by the handicapped and an “age guesser” that individual visitors can operate.
Everyone is cordially invited to attend the event. Light refreshments will be served.
