“Cooperatives: Progress TTirough People" is the theme of the October 1969 Co op month, H. S. Barksdale, Chairman of the Rappahannock County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) Committee, announced.
Farm marketing cooperatives work closely with ASCS in using farm price support programs to steady farm income, the Chairman said. More than one-fourth of commodity price support loans are made to farmers through their cooperatives. “I urge the people of Rappahannock County to support Co-op month by visiting their local co-ops,” the Chairman said. Cooperatives are a basic form of business in our free enterprise system, he added, and through them more than a third of the families in this country have an individual, financial interest in enterprises handling billions of dollars worth of goods and services each year.
