Jeremiah Atkins, Sr.
Jeremiah Peyton Atkins, sr., of lAmissville, died October 16, 1969 at the Lynn Care Center, Front Royal. He was 92 years old, a retired fanner and merchant. He was a native of Rappahannock, born in Sperryville, the son of the late Jefferson and Verenda Atkins. His wife, the former Martha Caroline Dodson, died in 1960.
Survivors include two sons, Roadcap Atkins of Amissville and Jeremiah Atkins, jr. of Culpeper; two daughters, Mrs. Annie Cooke and Mrs. Cora Atkins, both of Amissville; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Geest Funeral Chapel. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Culpeper.
Pallbearers were Bradley Dodson, Frank Atkins, Jack Hoffman, Clifton Clark, Johnny Sowers, Elmer Jenkins, Roy Atkins and Jimmy Kinsey.
Mrs. Martha French Butler
Mrs. Martha French Butler, age 94, a native of Rappahannock' County, died October 14, 1969, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Susie Majors in Sperryville. Besides Mrs. Majors, she is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Starks of Washington, Va. and Mrs. Pauline Starks of Washington, D. C.; two sons, James Herman French and Gaylord Butler of Sperryville; sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Hopewell Baptist Church, Saturday, October 18, conducted by Rev. U. S. Brokenburr. Pallbearers were Thomas Wigington, John Williams, Charles Williams, Harry Lewis, Howard Butler and Lewis Butler. Interment was in the family section of Hopewell Cemetery. The Marshall Funeral Home was in charge.
