When you renew your drivers license after January 1,1970, you will find new legislative requirements in effect. Certain age groups of drivers will be required to take at least a vision test. Persons in these same age groups, when their driving record shows more than one conviction resulting from improper operation of a motor vehicle during the four years prior to license expiration date, must also undergo a written test on the motor vehicle laws. Examinations may be required of drivers of all ages based on driving records which fall under previously existing laws. Also, if the examiner believes, as the result of observation, that a complete lamination should be given, he may do so. The requirement that persons personally appear to renew their driver’s license is a safety measure developed by your State legislature in 1968, and it is recognized that a computerized record in condensed form cannot “see” a motor vehicle operator.
