Dear Mrs. Latham:

Please accept this note as a “Letter to the Editor”. The subject is trash. I have read the letter and notice in the January 8th News and would like to make a suggestion. I make this suggestion because everything published to date, on the subject of trash, has been negative. By negative I mean everyone from the Board of Supervisors to the “News” to the man in the street tells you what y^u CAN’T do with trash. No one in the county ■" is informing the general public as to what they CAN do with trash. As you so well know the story is not complete until you answer who, what, when, where and why. It’s going to take education. Education of five to six thousand people living on two hundred and sixty-seven square miles of the most beautiful land on the face of this earth.

Trash removal is something new in the county. It is going to take the help of several agencies to make the system work. As a start I would like to suggest that you reserve a small comer in one gaily of the “News” devoted to the • subject of trash. The “News reaches over half of the county residents each week. If ten percent read a positive ad such as “don’t throw burnable trash in the county dumpsters, get a bum barrel from your fire department.” You have started the wheels in motion. As a follow-on suggestion think the fire departments in the county should go in the business of selling drams usable as containers of burnable trash. This could be a steady and profitable business for the companies and solve a tax problem of the county. As a third suggestion I recommend the health department start a program on

disposal. We remove trash for the basic reason that it is detrimental to the well being of the community. The fact that it makes the land look better is secondary. This problem is the responsibility of the county health department. As a fourth suggestion I think the zoning office, the office of the treasurer and the clerk’s office should enclose some sort of
