The decorated soldier is the son of Joseph Durden of Sperryville. He also was awarded a purple heart while in Vietnam for injuries sustained which included multiple schrapnel wounds. He has received his discharge from the service and was married the same day at Ft. Jackson, S. C. He is making his home at Rt. 3, Box 291, Columbia, South Carolina.
