“If I forget thee, 0 Zion, let my right hand forget her cunning.” So wrote a homesick Jew during the Babylonian exile. Having been a wanderer myself, I know somethingof the poignant longings one feels for the old hometown. It is a priviledge to return, even for a little while.
A friend told me recently of an experience he had as a young man. He was being prepared for surgery of a very delicate nature. His surgeon asked him if he had prayed for the success of the operation. He told the surgeon that he didn’t pray, but somehow he felt comforted when his surgeon said in a very reverent manner; “I have.” Did he pray in this manner; “O God, may my hand retain all its skill as this young man’s life hangs in the balance, be with both of us that his life may be spared to glorify Thee.” I don’t know how he prayed but it was effective.
I wonder how many souls have been led to God because a man prayed. Jesus said we should ‘pray without ceasing’. It is a wonderful priviledge to pray, to talk to the Father.
