A Castleton family of five was < left homeless Tuesday night when ! their house was destroyed by fire. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Edwards were awakened shortly before eleven o’clock by their dogs barking, to find the house rapidly filling with smoke and flames apparent in the rear section of the building. They with their three children fled to safety in the nick of time, some in night clothes and whatever could be grabbed in flight. The Edwards family had retired about 9:30, as usual and were roused by the do**, Dobecmnl Pinschers, which they breed and sell. Three of the animals perished in the fire.
The family barely reached safety before the frame building was engulfed in flames which eagerly lapped up its contents, leaving the Edwards absolutely nothing. A storage building nearby also burned.
Castleton Fire Company was quickly summoned and on the scene, but the building was a raging inferno and efforts to save it were futile. Amissville, Flint Hill and Sperryville fire companies also responded but all that could be accomplished was prevention of the fire spreading and keeping a propane tank cool.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwards moved to Castleton about two years ago to the former Mamie Leake property. He is employed in Maryland as a welder. The
