I understand that the armed forces are now using your social security number instead of assigning you a service serial number as in the past. I have been in the service for the past two years--will my service serial number be replaced by my social security number? A. The Department of Defense lias decided to convert from the military service number to the social security number in the future. The army is expected to make the change over within the next few months while the Navy md Marine Corps will delay their change over until January 1972. Hie Air Force began using the social security number in July L969.
