Minor Scratches and Blemishes on Furniture
When the blemish has not penetrated the finish on the wood, a simple application of paste wax or furniture polish will sometimes hide the mark. If not, try applying the paste wax with 3/0 steel wool, rubbing gently with the grain; then polish. If the blemish still shows, here are some other tips to try but first remove wax (which prevents absorption of coloring matter). Rub the area with a cloth saturated with naphtha, then wipe dry with a clean cloth. Nut Meats, Linseed oil
The oil from a Brazil nut, black walnut or butternut may provide enough coloring to hide a minor scratch. Break the nut meat in half and rub well into the blemish. Rubbing the mark with linseed oil may help, also, but don’t use crude oil . .. this could soften the finish on the wood. Coloring Crayon, Wax Sticks
Try coloring the blemish with brown crayon. Or use wax sticks . . . these are made especially for furniture in wood tones. They are softer than ordinary crayon and easier to work with. Fill the scratch with wax and rub in well with your finger. Wipe with a soft
