Freak Accident
Mrs. Nina May Nicholson of Sperryville was fatally injured Sunday night when she was struck by a large truck operated by her son Edward Mac Nicholson. Mrs. Nicholson was 51 years old, the mother of six children.
The freak accident occurred on Route 621 about three miles south of Sperryville at 11:30 p.m. and the truck was a 54 Ford owned by A. Y. Stokes of Sperryville.
According to Trooper J. B. Willis, Mrs. Nicholson, her husband James and a son were walking down the road when Edward Mac Nicholson stopped to pick them up. As he backed up the road he struck and injured his mother who was pronounced dead on arrival at Culpeper Memorial Hospital.
A minor traffic crash, investigated by Trooper W. A. Buntin, occurred in Sperryville August 16. Berlin Norwood Frye of Mt. Jackson in a 57 Chevrolet station wagon was struck by Billy David Meredith of Rapidan in a 67 Chevrolet. Meredith rounded a comer and skidded into the Frye vehicle which was parked. He was charged with reckless driving.

On Crewel Embroidery
The Rappahannock Arts and Craft Group met at Cab-Inn, Sperryville, August 11 at 10 a.m. Crewel embroidery, the craft Interest, brought out some new people. A short presentation of the history, both English and American, and the application of this type of needlework was given. A demonstration of simple embroidery stitches followed. It was felt that more than one session would be required to master the basic stitches, so August 25 has been set as a date for continuation on this craft. All are Invited to come and embroider with the group, whether you are an expert or a beginner.
