The Blue Virginia Hills Tills prose was written by a Rappahannock property owner who is not fortunate enough yet to spend all of his time in this county. He expresses exactly why he loves every minute he is able to spend here, and his profound thoughts coincide with many of the rest of us. Eventide comes slowly in the blue Virginia hills, the air grows cool and stillness creeps softly across the fields and through the woods. The trees stand quietly, their leafy arms stretching upward after the day long agitation by the wind, as if beginning their evening rest. The Pee-wee'o plaintive call comes clearly now from out of the cool green shade, and cardinals flash red as they whistle an<\ fly to eat the seeds so freely spread upon the ground. From far away a crow sends out an inquiry to find out if it is time to roost up on the mountain top. Soaring vultures sweep in long circles - their piercing eyes searching the ground. It's nearly dark, and the Whip-poor-wills proclaim the evening hour is o’er. 1 sit and look and listen- to the mounting cadence of myriad insects whose sounds were drowned by noises of the day. My thoughts soar out to where the last glow of light outlines the ridges against the sky, and peace pervades my soul Because I share this great expanse of earth and sky with other eouls who see and hear the wonders of God’s world pass by.
