He is survived by three sons, James S. Hughes of Pompano Beach, Fla., Puller A. Hughes, Jr. and Thomas M. Hughes of Warrenton; two daughters, Miss Virginia E. Hughes of Arlington and Mrs. Dabney Eastham of Huntly; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Miss Mary Hughes of Richmond and two brothers. Dr. John M: Hughes of Richmond and W. S. Hughes of Thurmont, Md.
A graveside funeral was held at Warrenton Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
James Milton Payne
James Milton Payne of Amissville died in the Culpeper Memorial Hospital, Tuesday, December 1,1970. He was 78.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 o’clock in the Royston Funeral Home at Marshall with Elder Frazier of Warrenton and Elder Majors of Front Royal conducting the services. Interment will be in the Orlean Cemetery. Mr. Payne was bom in Fauquier County, a son of James and Fannie Payne. He was a member of the Old School Baptist Church. Surviving with his wife, Mrs. Geneva Ada Payne, are two sons, Alvin M. Payne of Trenton, N. J., and John D. Payne of Marshall; six daughters, Mrs. Viola A. Heflin of Orlean, Mrs. Bertha M. Marshall of Gainesville, Mrs. Virginia L. Frazier of Marshall, Mrs. Elizabeth N. Putnam of Hume and Mrs. Irene A. Be bout and Mrs. Susie A. Roberts, both of Richmond; a brother Strother S. Payne of Charlottesville; a sister, Mrs. Emma Chadwell of Silver Spring, Md.; 22 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
