Take the case of malaria control in Ceylon with DDT as reported by HEW July 25, 1969. In 1950 there were more than 2,000,000 malaria cases. In 1950 DDT mosquito control program started. By 1963 there were only 17 cases. 1964 the use of DDT was stopped. By 1968 there were more than 1,000,000 cases. In 1969 the DDT program was initiated again.
Recently the use of the herbicide 2,4,5-T has come under fire both in Vietnam and at home. Critics say that 2,4,5-T caused embryonic effects in mice. Banning 2,4,5-T will reduce the number of deformed babies.
FACT: Over a 2 year period the FDA analyzed 24,000 market basket samples and found 2,4,5-T in only 3. The highest level was 0.19 ppm in milk fat.
Beometrics Lab. tested 2,4,5-T on mice and found that a dosage 113 ppm caused birth defects. Rates of 21.5 ppm were reported as the “no effect” level.
Assuming a 4% butterfat content in mUk, a 130 lb. woman would have to drink 175,000 quarts a day for 9 consecutive days to reach the equivalent of 21.5 ppm, which was listed as “no effect” by Beometrics Lab.
