The marriage of Miss Jacquiyn Rodgers to Captain John McCullough Humphries was solemnized Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1970 in the First Baptist Church, Flint Hill, Virginia. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert J. Rodgers of Flint Hill. Captain Humphries is the son of Dr. and Mrs. William C. Humphries of Front Royal, Virginia. The church was lighted entirely by candles in standing candelabra decorated with holly as the Reverend William A. Harrison of Sperryville performed the ceremony at 12 o’clock noon. Mrs. Paul Miller, organist, presented a program of nuptial music and wedding marches.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a formal gown of white straw silk fashioned with long sleeves and a high neckline. Satin braid accented the lines of the bodice, edged the sleeves and trimmed the skirt front. A deep inverted pleat in the back of the skirt formed a short train which was emphasized by floating panels. Her bouffant shoulder-length veil was held by a tiara trimmed with pearls and aurora crystals which had been used by all of the granddaughters. She carried an Edwardian bouquet of mixed flowers in shades of pink, red, blue and white in tiers of holly. She also carried a handmade lace handkerchief made in 1730.
Mrs. Karan Torneden of New York, N. Y. was matron of honor for her sister. She wore a floor length coat dress of moss green trimmed in gold and green braid and had a matching cap. Her Edwardian bouquet was of white chrysanthemums tiered with holly.
Thomas Rees of Quantico was best man for Captain Humphries and head ushers were Dr. William C. Humphries, Jr. of Philadelphia and Roger Torneden of New York City. James Morgan, Jr. ol Portsmouth and Douglas Jones ol Sandston were also ushers.
A buffet was held at Clifton the home of the bride’s parents following the ceremony. Mrs Frank Spalding presided at the wedding table which was laic with a satin and net covering anc held the tiered wedding cake Mrs. Bonnie Humphries o Philadelphia was in charge of th< guest book and Mrs. Eva Lorij Smith assisted at the church.
