Whittling has long been a relaxing pastime, and often leads to the development of a more serious craftsman. Carving classes have been an important aspect of the adult ed classes held annually and taught by Mrs. C.H. Estes of Sperryville. Hubert Gilkey of Chester Gap, left, holds some small items which he fashioned this year and F.L. Bowey shows the handwork he made from bottle caps, among other things. Faye Burner adds to the scenery as Kaye Lawrence holds the coat of arms which her mother, Mrs. Gilbert Lawrence, made in the carving class, her first attempt at such art. All are from Amissville.
