Because of weeds, Virginia farmers have a somewhat limited market for their orchardgrass seed.
“The Virginia seed law restricts the sale of orchardgrass seed if it contains five or more aerial bulblets of wild onion or garlic per ounce. It also prohibits the sale of any orchardgrass seed that is contaminated with quackgrass seed,” explained A. H. Kates, an associate professor and Extension specialist in plant physiology at Virginia Tech.
