Thomas also gave the crowd the best race of the day, defeating John Moore, who was the defending champion.
The 6’3” Moore set a blistering pace and led Thomas by about 20 yards; with 260 yards to go Thomas made up the distance and won by eight feet going away with what had to be the longest sprint of the season.
THE VICTORY was even more impressive at second glance, because only about 30 minutes previously, Thomas had completed his 4:41:00 mile. Defending champion Moore was fresh, having had no other races that day.
