Campbell in rairlax jail testified to conversations held with them when Campbell said, “I buried seven. Two were niggers. Shot one with a .22 caliber. Blood flew everywhere. He keeled over like a chicken.”
Albert L. Morgan of Falls Church, currently serving a sentence in Fairfax for forgery, said Campbell told -him of shooting a black man in the car and throwing him in the ditch. He also said that when they, he and Smith, robbed a place, they would kill any witnesses.
Morgan said he carried notes between Campbell and Smith who were in separate cells and that one note said, “As long as they don’t find Stringfellow it will be all right.” Another former inmate of the jail, Robert Linkous of Vinton, said one note which he saw said, “If they find Stringfellow, we’re sunk.”
