Charles Stringfellow of Amissville said he had talked with Campbell who was apologizing for being late and said, “I put another big black one down.”
Thomas M. Galloway, State Police Investigator, who had worked with former Sheriff Estes on5 the September 1970 murder of a hitchhiker in Amissville was present at the Prince William Court to act as a credibility witness, but his testimony was not required.
Campbell was found guilty in Rappahannock on four charges which included murder, robbery, grand larceny and statutory burglary in Circuit Court on August 4.
A hearing took place in Rappahannock County Circuit Court last week on a motion by Campbell’s attorney, Edward Greco to set aside the verdict in Rappahannock as being contrary to law and evidence.
Judge R.V. Snead set aside the motion and sentence was passed giving Campbell the 51 years as the 12-man jury had decided.
