BETWEEN MID SEPTEMBER and early November 71,000 head of yearling cattle and feeder calves will be sold in Virginia through the state graded sales sponsored by the Virginia Beef Cattle Association and in cooperation with the V.P.I. Extension Service. • The feeder calf sale series starts Tuesday, September 26, at Orange. And the first Culpeper - Rappahannock County Feeder Calf Sale will be Thursday, September 28th at 1 p.m. at the Agricultural Enterprises, South of Culpeper on U.S. 29. The 1,510 head consigned to this sale will be graded and weighed on Tuesday afternoon and all day Wednesday.
If you are new to Rappahannock and considering going into the beef cattle business, suggest you take a couple of hours Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday and perch on top of the fence surrounding the grading pen. Watch the graders at work. Ask questions of the other consignors. And start learning the basic differences in cattle conformation. A few hours here could mean the difference between success and failure in your first cattle venture.
The second Culpeper - Rappahannock Feeder Calf Sale will be Thursday, November 2. If you are interested in consigning your cattle in this sale, contact your Extension Office.
