OTHER INTERESTS OF THE RLEP touched on included efforts to have the wilderness area designation of the Shenandoah National Park enlarged, and to obtain improved telephone service for the county. Mrs. Day thought further work is needed to press for preparation of a Master Plan for Rappahannock County, along with siltation and erosion control ordinances.
By a show of hands, members present indicated they’d like to see the RLEP “look into the billboard problem,” but there was no great support at all for a proposal that they help obtain public tennis courts in the county. Support was also expressed for helping form commuter car pools, and for holding quarterly meetings which would feature such presentations as Borelli’s slide-talk on strip mining. A proposal by Mrs. Davis that “some sort of benefit program” be held to raise funds, in lieu of dues, received little or no support.
