Gypsy moths
are spreading
Midwestern Iowa has been added to the growing list of states where the tree-destroying gypsy moths have been trapped for the first time.
The U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reports the moths also were trapped in five additional counties in Virginia and North Carolina. West Virginia and Tennessee reported first time finds a few weeks ago. Male gypsy moths have now been trapped in a total of 41 counties in 9 states.
Officials of USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service say that the destructive tree pest was probably brought to the new sites on recreational vehicles from the infested Northeast. □ -4
