FAUQUIER COUNTY’S planning commission has given preliminary approval to. a 418-lot subdivision, and a member of that commission sat down with one of those little electronic computers and did some figuring. That many houses times 1.3 children equals 543.4 students, or 22 classrooms, which would require a school building capital expenditure of $770,000 (figuring $35,000 per classroom). Land would be an additional expense which it was impossible to -calculate, but suffice^ it to say the developer has made no offer of a school site. Operation of this school (at $700 per year per student) would come to $380,000-plus per year.

This subdivision is to be a “fancy” one, with houses costing around $60,000 (and how about that for • solving the low-cost housing “crisis” ,the county allegedly is experiencing?), so this subdivision would generate about $200,700 in taxes.
